Venezuelan Organic Coffee Beans - Roast/Green Pesticide-Free

Why Choose Venezuelan Coffee ?

Venezuela used to be the the third biggest producer and the second largest exporter of coffee in the world. At one time much of that export was to the U.K.

Recently it has been virtually impossible to find genuine certified Venezuelan coffee beans on the market. Consequently very few today have had the opportunity to taste these once well known and now rare coffees.

Our coffee beans are micro lots from small holdings, fully tested for mycotoxin, ochratoxins and pesticides, rainforest shade and organically grown. That’s how the majority of coffee is grown in Venezuela even today. We cup, select, control and grade every source only providing those which reach the mark.

Venezuelan micro lots - Zero Mould

Venezuela had a thriving coffee industry which at one time eclipsed her well known neighbour.

The discovery of oil had a big impact so much so the once significant coffee industry took a back seat. Recent years have also had an effect. Nevertheless coffee continued to be grown however without pressure driven by international demand.

Time stood still in many of the coffee areas. The ground, plants and fully grown canopies remain unaffected by ‘forever chemicals’ and industrial practices.

We believe this originality, rarely found in the coffee world today, is worth protecting and an opportunity for Venezuelan coffee to regain a foothold in the industry.

With strict adherence to statutory requirements as they relate to Venezuela, U.K. and the customer we firmly believe the reintroduction of selected Venezuelan Arabica coffee as a positive step. Not only the opening and access to the hidden Venezuelan coffee bean but also the streamlining of an evolved process that sometimes forgets the coffee growing community.

Our Brand KiGi

Blue Venezuela coffee growing area along southern Caribbean coast

Our Growing Area, South Caribbean to the Andes

KiGI Carib coffee contains beans only from Venezuela, more specifically from the National protected area along the Caribbean coast. That means no deforestation whatsoever. It’s with these beans, and others to follow (KiGi Bocono, KiGi Merida, KiGi Trujillo, KiGi Colonia, KiGi Andes etc), we address the key factors that determine confidence in the end product.

KiGi Carib

KiGi Carib contains only micro lots of Typica, Red Bourbon and Yellow Bourbon. All beans are tested to be free of pesticides, mycotoxins, ochratoxins and with an extremely low acrylamide level.

Natural rainforest canopy providing shade for coffee plants in Venezuela

Naturally Shaded

One of our coffee plants under the rainforest canopy. This should not be confused with agroforestry which attempts to mimic the natural canopy. Natural canopy shaded coffee is the original environment for the coffee plant and today that is extremely rare.

We belong to the U.K. and Venezuela. We speak the languages, understand local complexities and want to create opportunity for both countries.

We operate in the U.K. and Venezuela with registered companies in the two locations.

Uniquely we carry out all activities from our participating farms to the point of retail in the U.K.

There are no ‘middlemen’, just a straight line from the farm to you. That’s the way it should be and that’s the way we want to introduce Venezuelan Coffee.

A Few Key points

Typical coffee farm house in mountain area of Venezuela

  • The farmers share in the retail. That’s in addition to a farm gate price in excess of fair trade.
  • We source only micro lots, the unique small farm coffee bean.
  • Single origin. That means a single variety or blend from a specific named area and for us that is from the same farm.
  • We don’t have organic certification. It’s a costly process at this stage. Instead we test for pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilisers, mycotoxins, ochratoxins and acrylamide. We believe that to be at least as important as a statement of organic compliance.
  • We publish those results however we are restricted by the owner of the details, namely the independent laboratory.
  • Direct trade however we prefer a straight line trade.
  • Our beans grow under a natural rainforest canopy, naturally shade grown. We do not mimic forest conditions as in agroforestry and never associate with monoculture as in deforestation.
  • We choose only the valued beans and select at 15+.
  • We export only from Venezuelan ports as part of the traceability process.
  • We import only to the U.K.
